Killing The Game

HARD COPIES OF “KILLING THE GAME”  AVAILABLE IN CITY STORE THIS WEEKEND

Hard copies of Killing The Game, the most comprehensive look into the evolution of Manchester City following its acquisition in 2008 by the Abu Dhabi United Group, are available to purchase at the City Store from Saturday.

Vincent Kompany, who has been a key figure at Manchester City throughout the last ten years and has captained the Club to three Premier League titles, signed copies of the book, for which he was interviewed, at a gala dinner to raise funds for his homelessness initiative, Tackle4Mcr.

The author, Daniel Slack-Smith, conducted interviews with more than fifty current and former officials of Manchester City, City Football Group and the Abu Dhabi United Group, including Pep Guardiola, Mike Summerbee, Ferran Soriano, Brian Marwood, Khaldoon Al Mubarak and His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, some of whom have spoken publicly for the first time about events documented in the book.

Through a mix of exclusive interviews and previously unseen documents, readers are given rare insights into the highs and lows of the last decade at Manchester City and an inside view into the creation and continued growth of City Football Group and its global network of clubs.

From the boardroom to the meeting room to the dressing room, the fascinating stories behind the most important decisions and pivotal moments at Manchester City and City Football Group over the past decade are revealed.

Daniel Slack-Smith says: “The idea for Killing The Game was to take readers deep behind the scenes into the rebuilding of Manchester City over the last decade, and the creation of City Football Group, in order to tell the inside story of how and why things happened the way they did."

“A lot of people have strong opinions about Manchester City and City Football Group.  This book combines the views of more than fifty key decision-makers that have been personally involved in this ground-breaking project over the last ten years.  Whether you agree with them on every decision or not, it’s hard to argue that they don’t have a genuine passion for the game and some equally ambitious plans for the future.”

Manchester City captain, Vincent Kompany, added: “I joined Manchester City a few weeks before the ADUG takeover in 2008 and the amount that the Club has changed since then has been unbelievable.  After ten years it still feels like the same Club to me at its heart, and the fans and the owner can take a lot of the credit for that.

“This book documents a period in the history of Manchester City that will never be repeated, and it’s been a privilege to play a small part in it as a player and as a captain.”

The book was originally released in September 2018 to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the acquisition of Manchester City and has received an average 5-star rating on Amazon to date.

The hardback edition can be purchased from Saturday at the City Store.
